The Accolade Project - York University

Scenework The Accolade project was 35 years in the making, beginning with the vision of a fine arts program that would be one the best in Canada. The Accolade Project opened in 2005/2006. It provides facilities in two new buildings bracketing the existing Fine Arts complex at York University's Keele campus.

The Accolade $107.5 million project brings all of York's Fine Arts programs together in one dynamic cluster and is a catalyst for increase interaction and collaboration between the artistic disciplines. It is the largest and most complex facility to be delivered under a design-build contract at an Ontario university. The project was completed under a very tight timeframe of about 30 months, which is about half of the time normally expected by a university.

Our portion of the project spanned a year timeframe of March 2005 to March 2006. From providing an extensive proposal submission, meetings with the client, theatrical consultants, the general contractor, preparation and submission of shop drawings, submissions of samples and mockups, factory and on-site testing of equipment prior to installation to the final installation and training on equipment, Scenework was actively involved in a collaborative effort with all disciplines.

Flagship facilities include a 325-seat recital hall with an integrated recording studio, a 325-seat proscenium theatre with orchestra pit, anew dance studio performance space, and a FACS studio all equipped with state-of-the-art performance lighting equipment provided and installed by Scenework.
